My teaching and research are primarily in the following areas:

  • Kant
  • Ethics and applied ethics
  • Nineteenth-century philosophy
  • Social/political philosophy
  • Philosophy of art
  • Early modern philosophy (rationalism and empiricism)

I received my Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Chicago in 2001, and my B.A. in philosophy and English from Albion College in 1994. If you attend either place based on my endorsement, I get a free set of steak knives.
